Everybody loves snow when they’re young. Throwing snowballs and testing out your dodgeball skills at the same time, is harmless fun. Snowball fights can be incredibly memorable for children too, as it’s one of the best games you can play when you’re that age. And yet when you’re older and you have bills to pay, suddenly that glorious fluffy white stuff is no longer so fun. Well at times it can be but if you’re caught out in a snowfall, your life becomes immediately worse. Cars begin to slow down as they can’t see, causing traffic jams and accidents. If you’re not wearing adequate clothing you become cold very quickly and if you’re looking sharp for the company you work for, your hair is going to be a mess by the time you get to work. Here’s how you can avoid certain things that drive people mad during snowfall.
A sagging roof
Don’t whine and moan after the fact, be ready for the snow when it does arrive. Your home should be made prepared for the extra weight on the roof. Firstly make sure the attic is properly insulated. Insulation technology has made leaps and bounds so if you have insulation from 10 years ago, you may want to get it removed and fresh insulation put in. Secondly, you need to make sure the roof does not have anything in the way of blocking the snow from mounting up evenly. This means getting rid of twigs, branches, leaves any anything else that doesn’t leave your roof an even smooth surface as possible. Snow can be very heavy once it’s piled up, so keeping the weight distribution even is a top priority to help you roof manage. Thirdly, by a snow rake so you can get the snow off in a controlled manner to prevent damage.
Becoming a prisoner
During monumental snowfalls, homeowners can become trapped inside. This can be both literal and technically speaking. For snowfalls that trap people inside their homes, it’s a good idea to keep a spade indoors so you can pretty much dig your way out if needed. It’s also a good idea to keep a hose indoors too so you can spray the snow and melt it out of your way. For snowfalls that are heavy but not totally impeding, consider how you’re going to get to work in the morning. Plan to hire a snow removal service when your driveway is completely blocked and makes driving even at low speed tricky. This service can remove the snow during normal conditions and for those that are in an emergency. They will also make the driveway usable for a long time by salting it for you.
Cold outside, cold inside?
Putting the heat on in your home at a higher temperature and for longer has many benefits. One of them being that the pipes won’t freeze so easily and your morale inside the home goes up during particularly cold snowfall periods.
Everyone loves snowfall, but hates how it impacts their daily lives. It looks great and is fun for the children, but getting to work on time is a top priority for homeowners. That’s why clearing the driveway seems like a small thing at first but becomes very important when you can’t get out.
