School-Safe Wowbutter + Recipe

I was a little worried about what to put in Jayden’s school lunches as he is a very picky eater and loves his peanut butter sandwiches. He refuses to eat most things you put on sandwiches, and I knew that anything peanut is not allowed at school. So, I went on the hunt for some school-safe alternatives. We have tried a few different brands of soy spreads, and almost all of them are too runny and taste nothing like peanut butter.  When we found Wowbutter, we thought it would be just like the other brands we’ve tried, but we gave it a shot anyway and purchased a jar. To our surprise, Wowbutter was not like any other brands we previously tried. It’s the only product that actually tastes and smells the closest to peanut butter; it wasn’t runny, and my kids loved it!

The consistency of WOWBUTTER is creamy but not runny or oily. One problem we had with other brands was the oil sitting at the top which made the entire jar dryer and taste awful, this is not the case with Wowbutter.  Wowbutter comes in both creamy or crunchy, and your kids won’t be able to tell it’s not real peanut butter.  Each jar of Wowbutter has “Made with WOWBUTTER—100% Peanut/Nut free” peel-off stickers included for easy labelling. These are perfect for labelling your child’s lunch.    WOWBUTTER is the perfect safe-for-school, peanut-free spread.

Best of all, Wowbutter is made in a dedicated 100% peanut free, tree nut free, gluten free, dairy free and egg free facility!

Not only is this stuff good on sandwiches (mmm Wowbutter and jam sandwich), but you can even bake or make treats with it!

Did you know that DARE foods are now incorporating Wowbutter into some of their products, like Wagon Wheels and BearPaws?  Now your children can enjoy the “peanut butter” taste without worrying about their classmate’s allergies.

You can purchase Wowbutter at Walmart, Loblaws, Metro, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall and many more stores across Canada. To find a location near you, visit Wowbutter’s store finder

I made some Wowbutter cups and it tastes very closely to what a typical peanut butter cup tastes like!

WowButter “Peanut Butter” Cups – makes 24 cups

  • 4 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 -1/2  cups WOWBUTTER
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 2tbsp milk

Line muffin tin with paper baking cups.

Melt 2 cups of the chocolate chips. – You can melt in a pot on the stove using low-medium heat stirring constantly, or you can heat in the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds and then in 5-second intervals until melted.

Spoon in approximately 1 tbsp of melted chocolate into each cup, enough to cover the bottom and 1/3 way up the side of the muffin cup. Place in fridge for 5-10 minutes to cool and set.

Cover the WOWBUTTER mixture with melted chocolate, making sure the chocolate covers the entire WowButter mixture.  Place back in the fridge to set for an hour or more.

*Tip: Gently tap muffin pan on the counter a few times to remove air bubbles in the chocolate*

Once the chocolate is set, take the pans out of the refrigerator and fold the paper cup over the chocolate cup and store in air tight container in the fridge.
