I am so excited to be able to review Sanuk for you all.
A little bit about the company :
Sanuk makes super comfortable footwear for men, women and kids. Although I have never heard of them before — It’s true, I live under a rock — I’ve seen, while doing a bit of research on the company, that they’re really popular, and no shoe has ever gotten less than a 4 star rating. That says a lot about a company, especially for footwear, because it’s such a subjective taste. The styles Sanuk offers are mostly similar, either a sandal or a sidewalk surfer (a well constructed flat type shoe) in many different patterns, but they all have a little something about them that makes them stand out from other Sanuk footwear pieces – which made picking a pair to review was a really hard task! I narrowed my list down to four, and then somehow decided on the one, and put my order in before I could change my mind again. Those 3 others are in my ‘wish list’ for a rainy day.
Twice recognized at the SIMA Image Awards as the 2007 and 2010 Footwear Product of the Year, Sanuk makes creatively inspired and distinctively designed footwear for the global outdoor community. Taking its name from the Thai word for fun, the brand is best known for its Sidewalk Surfers. These closed-toe sandals are often referred to as “Not-A-Shoes” for their patented construction, which allows your feet to bend and flex in natural comfort. Founded by Southern California native and surfer Jeff Kelley, Sanuk sponsors a spectrum of premier athletes, including surfers Donavon Frankenreiter and Dave Rastovich and rock climbers Chris Sharma and Daniel Woods. Sanuk products are now distributed in nearly 70 countries worldwide
About the product I received :
After my struggle to choose just one pair, I ended up ordering the Yoga Sling 2 Print (ARP $55.00). I’ve never seen anything like this in stores before. I love that the material (stretch knit) is extremely comfortable. Most sandals leave blisters during the first week of wear, but not these! Another perk about the fabric is that it’s the same material that goes between the toes. I was half expecting it to be plastic (again, blisters!) but I was happily surprised. the base of the sandal looked a little bulky for a flip-flop at first, but it’s extremely comfortable. In all reality it’s not any thicker than a ‘regular’ flip-flop, it just seemed that way at first. I give it a 10/10 on comfort levels. It’s made out of real yoga mats and clouds. Okay, I made the last part up, but it really is made of yoga mats.

During the summer I only wear sandals, and I usually just wear cheapo flip-flops. I was excited to add these to the mix, until I went to put on one of my old pairs of flip-flops (hey, it was raining and I didn’t want to expose my new babies to the elements so soon!) and it was like walking on hard cement. It was horrible. No word of a lie, I got home and threw them (the old flip flops) in the trash. I suppose that’s the only downside of these sandals, once you wear them for a bit, you’ll never be satisfied with another sandal –or any footwear– ever again. They can be super casual (aka yoga pant cropped capris) or wear them with nice jeans for a more put-together look.
I would totally recommend these to anyone who wants ultra-comfortable sandals. Sanuk Canada offers free shipping on orders over $45.00
