Making Christmas Magical with Mark’s

The first Mark’s Work Wearhouse store opened August 14, 1977 in Calgary, AB as an industrial accessories retailer. With early success, the company expanded rapidly going public in 1981. Mark’s Work Wearhouse was purchased by the Canadian Tire Corporation for $116 million in 2002.

How to Choose a Safe Slipper

As we age, our feet, ankles and knees need more support. The muscles and natural cushioning of our feet, simply wear out.

1. Non-Slip, Textured Rubber Outsole

Perhaps most importantly, a rubber outsole with a pattern to give you extra grip. This will not only provide safety and security, but also extra support and comfort for the heel, ankle, and knees.

2. Style and Design

Choose a slipper that supports the front and back of the foot. Open heel slippers are not safe because they can slip off of the foot easily.

3. Lightweight

The slipper should not be heavy.

Heavy slippers may cause tripping and falls. Then again, slippers should not be too light either. You want to be able to feel the slipper so that you can retain control of your steps.

4. Fit

Get the proper size of slipper.

Slippers that are too tight will cut off circulation, aggravate vascular or skin conditions, and increase pain in swollen arthritic joints.

Slippers that are too loose could slip off and cause trips and falls.

This is by far the best winter jacket I’ve ever gotten. Yes, you read that correctly! I wear the Windriver in -30 Canadian winter weather without getting a single chill. When you’re overweight you’re hot. Sadly, not in a good way! I mean, you produce a lot of heat. When people ask me “Aren’t you cold?” The best way I can explain it is this; you know how arctic animals don’t freeze to death because of all their blubber keeping them warm… THAT is why I’m not cold, my fat, my blubber is keeping me warm with the added help of my hoodie.

I cannot properly convey how difficult it is to dress yourself when you are overweight. But at Mark’s they aren’t afraid to celebrate beauty in every shape and size. There you’ll find apparel ranging from XS – 5XL. You’re sure to find something for everyone on your list.

Meet Fish

This is my indoor cat, Fish. In March 2016, Fish decided to escape the house and go on an adventure. Within minutes of his escape it started to snow which disoriented him. Fish wasn’t able to find his way back home. It took us 25 long days to locate him. Sadly, not a single soul bothered to feed him during those 25 days. He was 12lbs the day he escaped but only 5lbs the day he was located. The emergency veterinarians did not think he would make it. But after 2 surgeries and 2 weeks in hospital he was released.

Unfortunately Fish’s adventure has made some irreparable damage. He is currently in Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease, which is why he’s always extremely cold. As you can see, it didn’t take very long for him to steal my Windriver hoodie.
