HOT ROCKS
Looking for something fun to do this afternoon with the kids? Let them get creative with crayons and hot rocks! It’s easy and you’re sure to have blast while making them.
What you’ll need
- Crayons
- Rocks
- Baking sheet lined with tinfoil
- Paper towel
- Oven mitts and/or hot pads
- Your oven
Start off by sending the kids to the yard with a bucket to find rocks.
Scrub all the dirt off of your rocks and warm your oven to 350. Put the rocks on a cookie sheet lined with foil and into the oven.
Cook them for 15 minutes.
Tip: While the rocks are cooking peel your crayons
The rocks are now nice and hot and the perfect temperature to melt the crayons all over the rocks! The wax will drip down (and wax is messy). So we folded up paper towels and put them underneath.
They are called HOT rocks for a reason; they are hot. You can’t touch them! Another benefit of the paper towel is that you can take the corners and move your rock around to get all sides and then can slide it out of the way when you are finished.
I know this is more of a kids craft…but I’m not going to lie, I made quite a few myself. They are just so fun and colorful! We made flowers and bugs and abstract prints! The possibilities are endless.
