Every time I hear someone asking for suggestions about what to watch on Netflix, I always recommend “Gilmore Girls”. It’s one of my all-time favourite shows! This fantastic show features seven amazing seasons, plus four bonus Netflix original episodes that were just released on November 25th . “Gilmore Girls” is about a spunky single mother, Lorelai, and her teenage daughter, Rory, who live in a small town called Stars Hallow. Together, they face relationship troubles, family arguments, and whatever else life throws their way. There are many unique characters involved in their dramatic lives; including Luke, the agitated, yet charming man who owns Luke’s Diner, Lorelai’s French coworker whose name is Michel, and Lorelai’s friend, Sookie (played by Melissa McCarthy).
I don’t know what it is that makes this show so enjoyable to watch. It could be the incredibly positive mother-daughter relationship that Lorelai and Rory have that makes it such a great story. Whether you are watching and can relate to that relationship with your mother; or, if you aspire to have that bond with your own child, “Gilmore Girls” makes you feel a connection with the characters. Perhaps it’s the humorous and witty comments that come from the mother- daughter duo that are just too much fun. I find myself chuckling every few minutes at something silly that one of them has said. They’re also constantly using crazy references, some of which, admittedly, go right over my head.
Gilmore Girls is also super easy to watch because you don’t have to follow the episodes too closely. If you’re looking for a show to put on while you do household chores, Gilmore Girls is a fantastic choice. The episodes do not require a whole lot of your attention, so you don’t have to worry about missing important parts and having to rewind.
Netflix just recently released Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life; four new 1.5 hour episodes; almost 10 years after the last season of Gilmore Girls aired. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to watch all of the new episodes just yet; however, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be watching them as soon as possible. Thus far, I am impressed by how the storyline was continued with ease, with Rory now grown up into a beautiful 32 year old woman. It’s interesting to see how both Lorelai and Rory’s lives have progressed and what new challenges they are faced with.
