Bambi Signature Collection Review + Giveaway

Available on Digital HD May 23 and Blu-ray June 6

“Bambi,” which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, joins the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Digital HD on May 23, and on Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand on June 6.  The Collection release includes a variety of new bonus material, including recordings of Walt Disney discussing the challenges and triumphs during the production of “Bambi;” deleted scenes and characters; stories and effects that “Bambi” had on the Studio, other films, and artists; and much, much more. Additionally, the Digital HD release includes an exclusive, heartfelt feature on the incredible artist, Tyrus Wong, who inspired the film’s soft watercolor backgrounds and beautiful palette.

While Bambi’s story is fairly simplistic, it is one that stays with you forever.

Follow Bambi and his fellow woodland critters like his rabbit pal Thumper or the scent-conscious skunk Flower who learns about survival in the forest.

Everyone loves a classic, and that’s exactly what this Anniversary edition is! The movie itself looks just as good, if not better than it ever has, presented in 1080p High Definition.

Bambi was originally released in 1942 during World War II and took over five years to make due to its exquisite hand-drawn artwork. It received mixed reviews upon its release in August of 1942 and lost money at the box office during its original run. Today, however, it is of course viewed as a masterpiece and we are lucky to even have it! There is a skill and sense of craftsmanship to early Disney movies that sets them apart from their sequels. You can see the thousands of hours of work that went into making each and every frame. As an adult, looking at these old animated films, I’m not only hit by waves of nostalgia but a sense of awe at the beautiful images on the screen.

This was the first time I introduced my kids to Bambi, and they absolutly loved it. There was a few tears shed at specific parts (you know the ones!) But in the end, they loved it and I think they will want to watch it again in the future.

It is indeed a masterpiece. The transfer to Blu-ray is pristine as we have become accustomed to with these animated treasures from the Disney vault. If you haven’t seen Bambi in a while, I highly recommend watching it on your TV or favorite digital device.

This film offers incredible special features:

  •  “The Bambi Effect” featurette about the influence of Bambi’s innovations on future Disney films
  • two newly-released deleted scenes
  • Studio Stories in which Walt Disney discusses the challenges, pitfalls and triumphs during the production of Bambi
  • “Bambi Fawn Facts”
  • Digital Exclusive featurette about artist Tyrus Wong’s influence on Bambi
  • HD version of the vintage, 1928 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short, “Africa Before Dark.”
