Have you ever been amazed at someone’s front door decoration that you actually thought you were knocking at Martha Stewart’s house? Have you always wanted one of those pretty wreaths at your local craft store but thought 69.99$ was just too outrageous for something you hang on your door?
Today, we will show you a step-by-step on how we created this beautiful summer wreath for under 10$ with items from the dollar store and things we had laying around the house.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
No crafter’s home is complete without a trusty glue gun and some scissors.
A small ribbon or string and needle to affix your wreath’s hanging device.
We started with our base. For only 3$ we picked up this beautiful hat at the dollar store. Keep in mind that there were plenty of other colors to choose from. We chose this color scheme to match with our front door.
You can’t do summer without sun glasses! Make sure you grab kids size, they are much cheaper at 1.25$. We chose a blue/aqua color to match with our hat, but again, there were many colors to choose from. The choice will be yours.
Well, you certainly can’t wear these during the winter time. So the first thing that comes to mind when seeing flip flops is SUMMER! These were a must for our wreath. You want to purchase size SMALL in the kids section. Not only are they cheaper but they are smaller in size which will come in handy. We thought the polka dots were a fun addition, but there are so many colors to choose from.
These little guys called out to me, I wasn’t even sure if I was gonna end up using them but something told me to purchase them. So I did.
Our wooden letters were purchased at Michaels craft store for 10 cents each. Of course, you could choose your own word, perhaps Summer or Hello. You could even choose numbers instead and put your house number. The options are endless.
These were from windmills I purchased last year. The sticks broke and I kept the windmill part. When you’re a crafter like I am you keep all sorts of stuff “just in case” and “you never know”. Should you not have any of these on hand they are 50 cents each at the dollar store.
I also had these flowers in a shoe box in my craft section. They were the perfect color to go on the wreath. Where they not the right color, I could of picked up a few flowers at the dollar store for a dollar.

ASSEMBLING:
Step 1:
Use a Sharpie permanent marker to color your wood letters. We chose yellow but you can choose the color you want based on the color of the hat you chose.
**Don’t forget to color the sides of the wooden letters**
Step 2:
Play around with your items until they are in a position you are happy with. Grab your phone and take a picture just in case something should happen and your items get moved and you can’t remember where everything goes.
Step 3:
With your glue gun in hand start by turning over your first wooden letter, put a decent amount of hot glue and return it to it’s predetermined position and apply a little pressure. Continue doing so until your entire word is glued down. In our case “Welcome”.
Step 4:
Glue the glasses shut so that they don’t flap open in the wind.
Then glue the glasses to the hat.
Step 5:
Place hot glue under each flip flop remembering to apply pressure as you position them to their proper location.
Step 6:
Glue your flowers and your pinwheel into their location, don’t be scared to put too much glue the petals will hide any excess you put on there.
Step 7:
glue the butterfly to the middle of the hat.
Step 8:
Thread your needle with the ribbon or string you chose and pass it through the fish line in the hat.
Step 9:
put a distance of about an inch and a half between each anchors you make. Tie a knot a the end and cut off excess.
Step 10:
Hang your wreath and enjoy.
