Taking your Motorcycle out of Storage

It’s almost spring, which means it’s almost time to take that motorcycle out of storage and give it a tuneup and a once over to make sure it’s safe to drive. You’ll also want to ensure that you’ve still got 125cc insurance for it, although there are many places where you can find cheap motorbike insurance so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

As temperatures rise with the sun’s rays, motorcycle enthusiasts get anxious to get the wheels out of hibernation and rolling down the road. But, did you know you need to give your motorcycle a look over before you begin to ride it? If you don’t have one you might want to consider the value of a second-hand motorbike so you can jump on and head out into the summer breeze.

Here are some tips to get you closer to the open road.

Inspect the battery

Make sure you check the voltage of the battery before reconnecting it to your bike and take care of any corrosion that may have built up.

Check your tires

Check your mmotorcycle tires to make sure there are no cracks, stress marks, or flat spots on the tires.

Don’t forget to check your spokes. Try squeezing them together, if they move, your spokes need to be tightened.

You will most likely need a tire change, make sure you are using a good brand of tires, like Pirelli motorcycle tires.

Check fluids

Depending on the duration your bike was in storage, it’s a good idea to change your oil.

Check all other fluids for any leaks and change or top off accordingly.

Full-body inspection

Check for loose bolts from vibration and tighten them

Check the condition of your brakes and replace if needed

Check the wheel and neck bearings for proper endplay

Check brake pedal, levers, switches and everything else that moves

Check your stand and make sure it’s working properly and moving smoothly

Test the lights and replace any bulbs that may have dimmed. Don’t forget to test your horn as well.

If you own a Harley, be sure to purchase Harley Davidson parts

Check for corrosion

Brake and throttle cables

Brake Lines

Oil lines

Rims and spokes if applicable

Frame corrosion

Now that you have checked everything and replaced what was needed, you’re ready to take your baby out for a ride in the fresh, spring air!
