When it comes to smart-bulbs, there’s a big range of them on the market. Some don’t do very much and are cheap (you get what you pay for), while others change colours and do a wide range of things. Philip Hue bulbs are the latter.
I’ve had the chance to try out the Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit, and I absolutely love it!
What’s in the box?
- 1 Hue bridge
- 1 wireless dimmer switch
- 2 Hue white ambiance A19 light bulbs
Some of the features are;
Control via your smart device
I love this feature. You can download the Philips Gen 2 app on your Apple or Android device. This lets you control your Philips Hue lights via your device from anywhere! That’s right, you can even control them when you’re out of town on vacation! You can set timers, notifications, alarms and more!
The app is very easy to navigate and easy to set up. Honestly, it took no more than 5 minutes to set everything up.
Light Schedule
Out of town and don’t want to leave your lights on 24/7? No problem! Philips Hue lets you schedule when to turn your lights on & off.
You can also set the lights to come on at a pre-set time, so the lights are on when you arrive home. Or, you can even set rooms to light up at different times.
Create your ambiance
You can set the right ambiance for any moment and decorate your home with warm to cool white light. Using the app, you can set a different ambiance from warm sunlight to cool daylight. Everyone has preferences when it comes to lighting, some like it darker, some like it brighter. With the Philips Hue, you can set your lights brightness to your liking.
The Hue dimmer switch is included in the kit, so when you are home you don’t need to use your smart device to set your lights. You can set up the switch on a wall – You don’t need to be a certified electrition to set this one up, just attach the switch anywhere you want using screws or adhesive tape on the back plate.
You can set these up in any room in your house. I have been using my Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit in my bedroom. We have the baby’s crib in our room because he still wakes up in the middle of the night. Before the Philips Hue, I had to either get to him in the pitch-black (and bump into everything) or turn on the light, which then woke up my husband and woke up the baby even more. Before bed, I gradually turn down the brightness of the bulb, which tells him it’s getting closer to bed time. Once bedtime hit’s I turn the Hue bulb to the lowest brightness and then turn it off. When the Baby wakes up in the middle of the night, I turn it on and it’s still set to the lowest light setting. It’s just bright enough for me to be able to see where I’m going, and not too bright to fully wake him or my husband up.
This is the most practical item I own, and I plan on purchasing a few more bulbs to use in other rooms, like the kid’s bedrooms. This would be perfect for their rooms. Bright light for play time and slowly decrease the brightness to let them know its time to clean up and quiet time before bed.
You can purchase the Philips Hue White Ambiance Starter kit from the Philips website.
