Alternatives to grass in your backyard

Many people are opting out of grass for their backyards and replacing it with different alternatives. Some folks find grass just too much work to maintain or utilizing the space for a garden or maybe you have a small space and nowhere to store a mower. Whatever the case may be, we have a few different options for you.

Gravel

One popular option is to simply replace grass with crushed gravel. It can actually be quite attractive and works well as a parking area or even an addition to your patio if it’s near the house where you live. Gravel may be easier than grass because there isn’t any upkeep and it’ll last longer than most plants will. You can always go for natural-looking gravel, too, to make it blend in with your backyard.

Interlock

If you are looking for something that will last forever, is maintenance-free and easy to install, then backyard interlocking in Markham is what you may need. Since the gaps between the pavers are filled with sand or stone, weed growth is minimized. It is also easy to take care of in wintertime.

Artificial grass

I am seeing this more and more in most recent years. It looks great all year long, no need to water and can last up to 20 years! It’s also one of the best-looking options because it looks like actual grass, but lasts longer.

Ground Cover Plants

ground covering perennials is a good idea you are not walking all over your lawn constantly. Clover, Lily of the Valley and Dead Nettle are just a few of the many ground covering plants available. Just be sure to check with your local municipality and make sure you are not planting an invasive species.

Pebbles

This is an interesting and low-maintenance option for your backyard. If done properly, it can look great and still allow you to walk around your lawn with ease! Some people prefer the roughness of rocks over the plastic grass feel so this may be a good alternative for you.

It’s a tough decision that really comes down to individual preference after all else has been considered by your landscaping contractors. Make sure to look up all the pros and cons of each option available to you before making your final decision. Whatever you choose, this will be something you will enjoy for years to come!
