Days are getting shorter, the temperature is starting to drop, and it begins to feel more like Winter. The holidays are coming around, and it’s about time to pull out the decorations. But before we do that, it’s a good idea to do a little pre-winter prep. I don’t mean the regular cleaning that you do day today, but the cleaning that you are probably not thinking of.
Clean vents
It’s that time when we have to start up the furnace. This is a great time to clean out your vents and get rid of all that dust and hair that may be in there.
Clean windows
I don’t mean just washing the glass itself, I mean clean the entire window. If you take a look at your vinyl windows, there are areas where dirt and grime and accumulate. Grab a q-tip and use a little water mixed with vinegar and get all that dirt out.
Clean the big appliances
Pull out that fridge, stove and dishwasher and give a good scrub to the wall and floor. You may be surprised at the amount of dirt that has built up behind these appliances over time. While you’re at it, you might as well give them a good clean on the inside too!
Wash the walls
You’ll often find marks on your wall, especially if you have kids, and wonder, well how did that get there? Instead of leaving those marks to accumulate over time, find some time to clean up your walls and keep your home looking pristine.
Change the furnace filter
A furnace filter that is clogged with dust, pet dander, and other particles will cause your furnace to work harder because of decreased airflow. Clean your filter to keep your furnace functioning to full form.
Dust Everything
Dust every nook in your home, including the top of doorways and your ceiling.
Turn over furniture
Tilt upholstered chairs and couches all the way back (much easier with two people) to expose the bottoms. The dustcovers tacked underneath furniture can catch dust bunnies, so vacuum them off.
Wash Baseboards
Baseboards are sometimes forgotten about when it comes to cleaning your home. Make sure every detail of your home is looking good by washing your baseboards too.
