How I Meal Plan

In effort to save money on groceries in August, I have decided to meal plan, and stick to it, once and for all.

I’ve tried to meal plan before but failed miserably after the second day.  It also cost me way more than my usual groceries, so I knew I was doing something wrong.

Then it clicked – use what we already have  (such a simple concept, no?)

At 3:30am the other morning, I was chugging coffee and thought how it would be a good idea to go through our deep freezers to see what meats we have; and to toss out old freezer burnt stuff.  I was surprised at how much meat we have under the ice cream.

This is what I came up with..

Are you kidding me? I’m here ordering Pizza because I think we have no good food in the freezer when there’s a gold mine in there? So, with knowing how much meat we have, I found recipes that include items we already own, like pasta, rice, spices, etc..

I compiled all my recipes and made a grocery list for the few items we will still need to buy.

I’m so excited, can you tell?

This is what ended up being my dinner list..

I left out the sausages because frankly, I think they’re gross. So somebody can eat them for lunch or whatever.

Now, all that’s left to buy is lunch food.. so a bit of deli meat, salads, and ingredients to make a big batch of homemade soup!
